The society, All Maine Women (AMW), was founded by University of Maine President Clarence Little and Carolyn Colvin, Dean of Women, at the University of Maine in April, 1925. The organization recognizes distinguished leadership, scholarship and service to the UMaine community by outstanding women of the incoming senior class. AMW is the highest, all-inclusive but non-scholastic honor society for women at UMaine. Members are chosen from the three upper classes on the basis of exemplary character and integrity, MAINE spirit, scholarship, leadership, and potential for continued contributions to the University of Maine. The Living Library Project is an ongoing, joint project with the University of Maine President's Council of Retired Council, to compile an oral history of UMaine from retired faculty, staff, and administrators.
