Project Abstract/ Summary
The under-representation of women in engineering continues to be a cause of grave concern, particularly as international competitiveness focus attention on the need to increase native participation in the U.S. science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workforce. Engineering as a career is being promoted to girls through a new College of Engineering initiative called Girls Engineer Maine (GEM). GEM is an educational outreach program designed to increase the number of women studying engineering in Maine.
