Abstract/ Summary

This month, we’re highlighting Joelle Kilchenmann, a Ph.D. candidate in Dr. Joshua Stoll’s Social Oceans Lab at the University of Maine. Joelle’s research explores the human dimensions of Maine’s lobster fishery - how social and economic factors shape risk, resilience, and decision-making at sea. Her path to marine science began on the tide pools of Acadia and has taken her from coral reefs in Panama to working waterfronts along the Maine coast. Through her work with the Navigating the New Arctic: Lobster Network project, Joelle bridges communities, science, and policy to better understand and sustain the livelihoods at the heart of Maine’s blue economy.
