Abstract/ Summary
First recognized as a week, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, in 1926, during a week in February. It was in 50 years later during President Gerald Ford's presidency Black History Month recognized during February. President Ford encouraged the nation to "...seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history."
