A scanned version of the Commencement Address delivered at the University of Maine by Dr. Carl Edwin Ladd, Dean, New York State Colleges of Agriculture and Home Economics, June 9, 1941. Published as a part of the Maine Bulletin series, Vol. XLIV, No. 5. Written prior to the United States entering World War II, the text discusses at length whether it "is now evident that we shall do things which are distasteful to a peace-loving people but which we recognize as necessary."
