Description
An image scanned from a black and white illustration of John Bacon Curtis, developer of spruce gum and the chewing gum industry. The illustration appeared in Genealogical and Family History of the State of Maine edited by George Thomas Little. The text explains the family's connections to Bradford, Hampden, and Bangor, Maine, and notes that in order to be nearer the market, the family moved to Portland, Maine, where "Curtis & Son made a fortune in the industry they had started in a humble way" (p. 526).
