Description
An image scanned from a black and white photographic print of Henry Van Meter (sometimes spelled Henri Van Meter), a resident of Orono, Maine, in the early 1800s. Notes accompanying the photograph indicate that information about Van Meter's life can be found in several sources, including the writings of Israel Washburn, Jr., in an 1874 book written for the Orono Centennial (pages 135-136 and 156-157), Lossing's Pictorial Field-Book of the War of 1812 (page 912), articles in the Bangor Daily Whig & Courier newspaper (including June 26, 1837, page 2 column 2), and several other sources.
