An image scanned from a black and white plate glass negative of an image captured by Garnett Ryland, who was teaching chemistry at the University of Maine, with his new camera in 1900. The image was identified as "Orono from the ferry," and appears to have been taken from across the Penobscot River toward the area of Webster Point in Orono. Several mill buildings appear in the background.
