Abstract/ Summary
This article combines three separate pieces in Maine Woodlands (March-May, 2025) to capture the long-term forest management of Wicopy Woods, a long-standing Tree Farm in Maine, highlighting its history of exemplary stewardship and detailed record-keeping under both the original and current owners. Long-term data document the forest's growth and harvest patterns over decades, demonstrating how intensive silviculture has balanced yield with ecological health and resulted in significant changes in species composition towards more valuable, long-lived trees. Furthermore, the article captures the financial profitability of managing the woodlot, showing a substantial return on investment, and explores the carbon storage implications of their management practices, concluding that "good forestry" is also carbon-friendly. The text provides data and figures to support these findings, illustrating the long-term success of their approach.
