The Pine Needle

The Pine Needle was UMaine's campus "Humor Magazine" that began publication in the fall of 1946, the first post-World War II semester that saw GIs returning to campus. The periodical's content and editorial style reflects the changes that happened in American humor during the war. Unlike previous student publications, The Pine Needle sold advertising space, allowing editors to print photographs, particularly stock "Campus Glamour" photos that employed techniques used in Hollywood glamour portraiture to objectify "co-eds." The last issue was published [Spring 1951?].

Libraries and archives collect materials from different cultures and time periods to preserve and make available the historical record.
