Description
Black and white photograph of a tall carved stone monolith covered with curving lines that suggest flowing water, set outdoors near bare trees. The photograph focuses on one of the three Maine bluestone monoliths from the "Brewer Centennial Monument" by sculptors Carole Hanson and Andreas Von Huene, 1994, signed "CH ARvHH," showing it rising vertically from a landscaped brick terrace and surrounding ground. The visible face of the stone is deeply carved with long, parallel, wavy channels that run from the top edge downward, ending in large spiral shapes near the base that resemble stylized streams and swirling water. Two stylized salmon can be seen carved on the left side of the monolith. Leafless trees and a bright sky form the background. The monument stands at Dyer's Cove, South Main Street, adjacent to the Route 395 bridge, Brewer, Maine. 1994. Unidentified photographer. (See p16924-p16937, p16948-p16952)(NA4800.)
