VP_001210 Verse 1Last night in my dreams I was cheerfully roaming, The green hills of Ireland the land I adore, And as I sat there on the cliff in the gloaming, I viewed all the scenes I had oft' seen before, The "Glen Da Lough Valley!" The brook twixt the pine trees, The ancient "Ross Castle" reflecting so bright; Once more, I could hear the old chimes peel divinely, The echoes of which filled my heart with delight. Chorus 1They were echoes from Ireland the land of my birth; They brought to me mem'ries of yore! When I wandered in childhood with playmates of old, From mountain tops down to the shore, The beautiful "Lakes of Killarney", The rapids in the Gap of "DunLoe" The "Devil's Punch Bowl" seemed completely to charm me, Though in childhood I oft' feared it so. Verse 2Once more I could see all the cows in the clover, The sheep in the meadow were bleating close by, The homestead of old was still guarded by "Rover", Dear father and mother were sowing the rye, The roosters were crowing! The hens, they were cackling! And Cathleen my sister was ringing the gong, Whil'st dear brother Owen was so busily tackling, The big oaken wood pile and sang right along.
