Abstract/ Summary

This report documents suspected and confirmed fatal and nonfatal drug overdoses in Maine during September 2022 as well as for the period January 2021–September 2022. During September, the proportion of fatal overdoses averaged 6.1% of total overdoses. Monthly proportions of 2022 fatalities have fluctuated from a low of 5.1% in May 2022 to a high of 8.2% in April. So far for 2022, the total number of overdoses January–September is 9.3% higher than during the January–September 2021 (13.2% fatal and 9.0% nonfatal). During the period January–September 2022, fatal overdoses comprised 6.6% of all overdoses, just slightly higher than the 6.4% for the first nine months of 2021.
