Description

Black and white photo of the first heat of the 2.22 Pace of the Cumberland County Fair Trotting Park during the Western Maine Agricultural Exposition, Gorham, Maine, August 1932.

Bay mare, Lady Locket, owned and driven by Chappelle, appears on the left in the image and came on to win the heat over Blanche Belwin, the gray mare driven by Michaud, seen to the right in the image. Later finishers in the heat can be seen in the photo background as well as the crowd of spectators along the rail.

Guy Kendall mounted the photo inside the official score card for the second day of races at the 1932 Western Maine Agricultural Exposition. The program does not record the date of the races. Lady Locket won all three heats, claiming the $150 purse.
