Local Trot and Pace
Sepia tone action photo of a close heat between So Big, Ray Brooke, and Calumet Deniscisco at the 1936 Cumberland Fair, West Cumberland, Maine on September 22. The contenders finished one, two, three. The angle at which Kendall captured this photograph, viewing the horses nearly head-on, opposed to perpendicular to the finish line first appears in his work late in the 1936 race season. In addition to the effort of the horses to drive to the line, Kendall captures the intensity of the drivers' faces.
