Abstract/ Summary
This chapter reviews the history of high-yield silviculture in the spruce-fir region and lists key principles of managing for high timber yields. Practices discussed include assessing stocking of young stands, planting with site preparation, herbicide release, precommercial thinning, commercial thinning, thinning schedules based on the new stocking guide, and rotation lengths.
