Description

This 1949 edition of Maine Sports with John McKernan, Sr., discusses the upcoming opening of the fishing season, the tradition of sharing the first salmon caught at the Bangor Salmon Pool with the president of the United States, and the dwindling salmon population. McKernan next covers the sport of boxing, particularly an upcoming bout organized by the Bangor Boxing Club between Hermie Freeman (known as the Eagle Lake Assassin) and Tommy "Red" Wells of Manchester, New Hampshire. Finally, the program provides coverage of awarding the Bill Stern Athlete of the Year Award to Raymond A. Cox of Bangor High School. His coaches, Cy Perkins and Red Barry, both speak.
