Abstract/ Summary

With 11 players returning from last years’ team which finished third in the AMERICA EAST Tournament, the Black Bears will look to challenge for the conference title this season. Maine will not only benefit from the experience the returning players have gained, but their continued offensive power as well. Maine was second in the conference in batting average last season and five of its top six batters are back for another season. Among the group that helped Maine record a team batting average of .304 was 1997 AMERICA EAST Co-Player of the Year Michelle Puls. The shortstop hit .406 to lead the league.
