Abstract/ Summary

In just six short years, the University of Maine at Orono hockey program has experienced just about every up and down there is. Two years ago, the team qualified for the ECAC Division I playoffs after only two years in the league. Previous to that, Maine had qualified for the Division II East tournament in 1979 after only two years as a varsity. On the other side of the coin, after losing 15 players to graduation last year, the Black Bears slipped to an 8-21 record and a last place finish in the ECAC.

The 1982-83 edition of the hockey Bears will be looking to return to the upper level of the league. One thing Maine will have going for it is the respect from the other members of the league. Even though the Bears had an off year in 1982, the team is now looked upon as "one of the boys." No longer the "new kid on the block," Maine has shown it belongs in Division I.
