Description

An image scanned from a postcard of the Willliston Church, identified in text on the card as the birthplace of the Christian Endeavor in Portland, Maine. Text printed on the reverse reads, "This notable church structure is known throughout the world. It was in this church that the first Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor was organized, Feb. 2d, 1881, from which has developed this world-wide institution." A portrait appears in the upper left hand corner, and though unidentified, is presumably of the church's pastor and founder of the organization, Francis Edward Clark.
