Description

A black and white photograph of workers at the bottom of a narrow crevice as they harvest slate for the Maine Slate Company of Monson. Although the photograph is not dated, it must have been taken after the company opened its quarry in 1903. It appears that wooden timbers were being used to stabilize the rock at the top of the quarry site.
