Description

Black and white photo of the first heat of the 2.22 Pace of the Cumberland County Fair Trotting Park during the Western Maine Agricultural Exposition, Gorham, Maine, August 1932.

Blanche Belwin, a gray mare driven by Michaud, is on the right in the image wearing a large, black shadow roll and hitched to a white sulky. On the left is Lady Locket, driven by Chappelle, who finished the heat in first place. Blanche Belwin turned in an inconsistent performance on the day. Later finishers in the heat can be seen in the photo background as well as the crowd of spectators along the rail.

Guy Kendall mounted the photo inside the official score card for the second day of races at the 1932 Western Maine Agricultural Exposition. The program does not record the date of the races.
