Description
Black and white portrait of bay gelding, pacer Royal Hanover, Jordan up during the State Fair "Overcoat Meet" at the Maine State Fair Grounds in Lewiston, Tuesday, October 15, 1935. Note that Royal Hanover is outfitted with a Raymond Leverage Overcheck. According to Clark Thompson, "The driving bit is attached to the driving lines as seen here. The Raymond overcheck here is used with a chin strap under horse's mouth. These type of bits are used to prevent the horse from dropping his head which makes it more difficult to steer and stop or slow the horse."
