Abstract

The Official Score Card for the second day of the 1934 Topsham Fair harness races. The card includes the names of the race officials and executive committee as well as the line ups for each harness race, two mule races, and the Rules Governing Mule Races. Kendall recorded changes in race day line ups and finishes.

The program includes a memorial listing that read: In memoriam. Isaiah R. Morrell. Born, July 2, 1869, Windham, Me. Died, March 17, 1934, Brunswick, Me. According to the 1920 U. S. Federal Census, Morrell was a horse dealer.

Rules Governing Mule Races

Drivers will report to judges stand five minutes before race. Clothing of any sort which does not date back B. C. (Before Croppers) is allowable on man or mule Drivers are asked as a particular favor not to carry anything in their nursing bottles stronger than T. N. T. Pushing or pulling the mules more than one-third of the way will disqualify the driver for prize. Contestants are allowed to carry baseball bats, lolly pops, or whips up to 50 ft. in length, also pacifiers including rubber hammers and hot dawgs will be permissible. However, none of the above-mentioned artillery is to be turned upon other members of the racing squad. Races will not be called off or postponed on account of milking time or hot weather. Owing to the depression, three cheers will be gladly handed out to each driver just preceding the start.
