Project Abstract/ Summary
Kon Tiki, a new Norwegian film, based on the 1947 expedition of Thor Heyerdahl of his sailing across the Pacific Ocean from South America to Polynesia, will be featured at the Collins Center for the Arts on Thursday, October I0,2073 at 7:00 p.m. Heyerdahl's epic 4,300 miles, 1-01-day voyage on a balsa wood raft captured the popular imagination of the period. Heyerdahl's 1948 book on the voyage became a best seller and a documentary film directed by Heyerdahl won an Academy Award in 1951. This new movie, Kon-Tiki (20t2) is a historical dramatization directed by Norwegian Joachim Ronning. It was the highest grossing film of 2012 in Norway and won the Audience Award at the 40th Norwegian International Film Festival. It was nominated as Best Foreign Film at this year's Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards as well as two other film award nominations.
