Project Abstract/ Summary

On Thursday, October 21,2010, the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Environmental & Watershed Research (Mitchell Center) will host the annual Senator George J. Mitchell Lecture on Sustainability. Note that with Senator Mitchell's approval, we have changed the name of the event from the Lecture on the Environment to the Lecture on Sustainability to reflect the new direction of the Mitchell Center and the Sustainability Solutions Initiative.

This event is free and open to all. lt will take place from 1pm-3pm at Wells Conference Center, University of Maine, Orono. Our keynote speaker for the event will be Elinor Ostrom, winner of the 2009 Nobel Príze ín Economic Sciences (shared with Oliver E. Williamson). Senator Mitchell has indicated that (contingent on his roles as President Obama's Special Envoy to the Middle East) he also plans to attend and speak at the Lecture. President Robert Kennedy will provide the welcoming address.
