Project Abstract/ Summary
For this reason, the Art Department is requesting funds to support "Natural Resources," an exhibition of paintings by University of Maine alumni Charles Yoder. Mr. Yoder's recent works are paintings of trees, created in his studio from manipulated photographs. His paintings have been described as deceptively simple, widely accessible, thought-provoking and mysterious. Essayist Howard McCalebb points out: "Yoder's paintings remind us that it may be time for us to slow down and think about....where we are going. We should not depend too much on painting and photography as the way to preserve our natural legacy.... As much as we cherish art, we need the real trees as well."
